A Virtual Week in Canberra 2023 – Protests, petitions and puddings: how Australians have made change since federation (Stage 3)

On Demand

Join us at National Archives for an interactive tour of the Disrupt, persist, invent: Australians in an ever-changing world exhibition. Discover ways Australians have made change since federation.

ACTIVITY OUTLINE:

Take a virtual step into National Archives for a free, interactive tour of the Disrupt, persist, invent: Australians in an ever-changing world exhibition. In this 45-minute program broadcast live from Canberra, a National Archives educator will lead your students through inquiry-based activities that explore records of protest and social change from the national archival collection.

Why did two women chain themselves to a bar in Brisbane in 1973?

What made the Pacific Islanders Association write to Prime Minister Alfred Deakin in 1906?

How did recipes for ‘lemon cheese’ and ‘fruit flummery’ make a difference to rural communities in the early 1930s?

And what can you do to create change in your community today?

Whether it be through protests, petitions, or puddings, Australians have shown creativity, courage and persistence in their efforts to create change. Allow our archival records to inspire you and your students to make your own difference today.

You will need to view the session before midnight Friday September 22nd.
